Romney’s in trouble. Not really, but yes. He didn’t quite get the thunderous win in Maine that he needed to really quite the doubters (39% to 36% for Ron Paul). About the only big thing he can claim right now is the CPAC straw poll which he won fairly handily, but there were no delegates awarded from that.
I can’t quite nail it down yet if Romney is destined to get the nomination or not at this point. He’s close, and he still vastly outnumbers his competitors in delegate counts. But… I just can’t quite nail it down.
He’s the front runner for sure, but he just can’t seem to get the backing he needs to really cement the deal. It’ll be interesting to see how the GOP transitions into general election mode.
