Pseudo Valentine’s Day 2010

And here we are again. And just in case you’re wondering, yes, I still have a rather fond dislike of this holiday. Some things never change.

I’ve been wondering what to do this year for Pseudo Valentine’s Day. Part of me is ready to throw in the towel on this annual crusade and just give in, but how does that improve the situation? If I do something because I gave up, that’s almost worse in my mind. Sigh… I guess it’s just a good thing that Courtney loves me for me.

I was at the eye doctor on Saturday, and I just shy of actually bought something for V-Day. I honestly did. Almost. What finally stopped me was the fact that I had just spend just shy of $500 for two new pairs of glasses and the knowledge that we’d be soon spending a lot of money on fixing Myron’s eyes and on the house improvements that need to be done quickly.

Ah, the practical, frugal sense in me strikes again.

Right now I’m leaning toward making her a nice dinner on Sunday. Another thought would be to abandon her on Saturday to a carefree night without having to worry about or watch anyone. She likes that, and Nosurfgirl lets us raid her house and play around when we do.

She’s also very fond of miniature roses, and I could be pushed to get her a small pot of mini roses for the house. She’d like that a lot as well. Decisions, decisions, decisions.

On other news, this was the first year we had Katherine give Valentines to other people, and I laughed when she complained of writing her name on a Valentine card for the tenth time. Oh the pains of childhood…. Having to write your name ten times….

p.s. Myron’s doctor appointment for his eyes is scheduled for Feb. 22. Right now it looks like either an eye patch or out-patient surgery depending on what the actual problem is. We’re feeling good and confident.

We’re opt-ing out this year by visiting family so I don’t have any suggestions for you. Good luck.

The mini rose sounds awesome. Thoughtful and actually somewhat valentine-y by pure coincidence.

Skywalker and I are actually going on a date (a real, live date… not popcorn and movies in the living room after the kids go to bed!) I’m actually wierdly excited. It’s been a LONG TIME. I’m more impressed than anything else that Skywalker actually remembered to get a sitter this time, so I don’t have to!!

Anyway, we’re going out Sat. Night. So if you want to give Courtney some free time, Friday would likely be better.

BTW… won’t she read this and know what you’re planning??

Yeah, she probably will, but that fits in well with my protest against the day. 🙂 We’ll have to see about Friday, though I’m ready to beat Jeff soundly on the Wii.

So, I feel like I should know this, but I think I have forgotten. What’s the beef with V-Day?

  5. daveloveless says:

My big problem with V-day is that it is manufactured. It’s a time when I am obligated to be in love with my wife as opposed to being in love with her simply because I am. It’s a day where men around the world put on an outward show of affection not necessarily to show their loved one that they care but rather to show the world that they care about their loved one.

No thanks. My love for Courtney is just that: MINE, and I will show it in my own way, in my own time, so that there is little doubt in her mind that it is genuine, real, and freely given.

Besides, if there were any day that were set aside to show my love for Courtney, it’s our anniversary, not the commercial eye-sore of V-day.
