So I’m not generally big into the super hero movies. I’m sure I’ve said that before. For example, I really did not like Captain America. At all. It was so over the top.
Now Thor….
The Good
I don’t know what it was, but I liked this one. It was just as over the top as most of them, but I generally liked it. Probably the Norse mythology (Courtney would say it was the man-boobs). This one just worked for me for some reason.
The storyline was reasonably interesting, I loved (let me emphasize that) L O V E D the scenery. That’s home to me. The fjords, the mountain sides, the water… Sigh…. I’m just humble enough to recognize that the scenery alone might have been the difference maker for me.
And Anthony Hopkins.
Of course.
The Bad
Some language. Some predictability (are we surprised).
I didn’t much care for the portrayal of SHIELD in this film. I know I’m not qualified or well-versed in comic lore, but the previous appearances of SHIELD seemed more benign. Friendly. In this one, they were the stereotypical men in black.
That didn’t work for me.
What did work for me were the host of redneck stereotypes surrounding the group trying to pull the hammer. That worked.
Conclusion
It was okay. I’d never buy it, but I’d pull it out again in a year or two for a Friday night with a big bowl of popcorn.
2.5 out of 4 stars.
