At work, I’m training a team of Malaysians for the next two or three weeks. Most of Malaysia practices Islam, and our guests are no different. Personally, it’s the first truly close encounter I’ve ever had with the religion, and I’ve enjoyed the encounter. Here’s just a few random thoughts….
Our guests are deeply devoted to [...]

In my daily scripture study, I encountered a hopeful gem the other day. I’ve read it a dozen times I’m sure, but it really stuck in my mind this time both as a measure of hope for what I’m trying to become and a reminder that there is still plenty of things that need to [...]

My ward has two elders quorums, and about 18 months ago, I proposed that we start monthly sports rivalries to promote across-the-quorums unity. The first event was a volleyball match, and one of the activity chairs offered a color-printed picture of Chuck Norris as the trophy that would pass back and forth between the quorums.

Courtney and I are on this huge self-sufficiency kick where we’re learning how to do all sorts of stuff on our own. We already learned how to make our own butter, we currently make our own bread, we’re learning how to make yogurt, and this last weekend I learned how to make cheese.
That’s right, cheese.

I’ve been thinking an awful lot about my own dad and some of the things he’s taught me. In particular, a phrase he mentioned just this past week (and many times before) has struck me again and again and again. Talk about falling off a log….
I kept meaning to start my addictions series, but I never did. However, recently I had an experience that pushed the topic back to the front of my mind. I was recently challenged to find effective coping mechanisms, and a brief Internet search came up with many topics talking about [...]

Here’s a recipe that Courtney found and I improved. We use it all the time, and it’s super-easy to make and use. Before we begin, please note that this is one that I make on the fly without really measuring. I’ve guessed approximate measurements.
Homemade Pesto
In a blender, mix the following ingredients:
1/2 cup to 1 cup [...]

I met with my bishop yesterday to talk. I love my bishop. He’s one of the most loving, forgiving, and open men I know, and he has literally burned the last 5 years of his life in service to his ward. He’s one of the few men I’ve known who I’ve readily claimed as “my” [...]

I rather enjoyed commenting on the State of the Union Address in this manner, and it’ll be fun to do so for this speech as well. The format, as normal, is as follows:
I copy and paste points from his speech that catch my eye.
I respond to said points.
Pretty simple.
Thanks to the bold and decisive action [...]
