First, I have to thank my good friend Jocelyn (ellament.blogspot.com) for the title to this post and the idea. She pointed out that the birthday experience in my first post had some similarity to my Anniversary.
For our anniversary a few weeks ago, we had planned to go see a play and eat dinner. However, shortly before the play was to start, we found ourselves in the doctor’s office with our daughter. She had an ear infection and was most displeased about it. We called up our babysitters, Jocelyn and Robert, and told them that we were going to cancel because of Katherine. They insisted that we still try, though, so we ran home to get ready to go.
Long story short, Katherine was still in great pain, we were tired and worried for her, and we were hesitant to leave her crying with friends because… well, because that’s just plain cruel to do to a babysitter. So we stayed home.
Jocelyn didn’t have a car with her because her husband was off helping someone move, so instead of sending her home, we invited her to stay. Courtney and Jocelyn went off to give Katherine a bath while I ran out for food—Arby’s.
When I got home, Katherine was still bathing and everyone was sitting in the bathroom. I figured that the best option was to just join them. So we spent our anniversary sitting on the floor in our bathroom eating Arby’s and watching Katherine bathe. It made me very glad that Courtney does such a fabulous job of taking care of our home.
Romantic? Uh… no.
Fun? Oddly enough, yes. It was quite fun.
Later, Robert showed up, and we spent the remainder of the evening playing Game Cube and having a good time.
It was truly the most unusual anniversary I’ve ever had, but it was also one of the more memorable and even enjoyable.
